Former National Football League Player Antonio Brown Files Innocent Plea in Murder Attempt Charges
Ex- NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to address an murder attempt allegation stemming from a shooting that happened in May, as his attorney submitting a not guilty declaration on his behalf.
Correctional documents in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was released on Tuesday morning for his relocation to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular players in the NFL, had forgone extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an message that he has earlier submitted a formal innocent response to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami court as soon as Wednesday early for a bail session, Eiglarsh stated.
Based on his detention order, Brown is charged of seizing a firearm from a security staffer after a public figure boxing contest in May and firing a couple of shots at a man he had clashed with previously. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that one shot touched his throat.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was simply protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was forced to take were solely in self-protection against the alleged victim’s violent conduct. Brown was attacked that evening and acted within his lawful entitlement to defend himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not immediately detained because initially authorities did not identify Nantambu as a target. It not until subsequently in May that Nantambu gave a complete account about the event to officers and named Brown as the gunman, the document says.
According to his social media updates, Brown had been staying in Dubai for several weeks. In a message after the altercation, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “assaulted by several individuals who attempted to steal my jewelry and bring bodily injury to me.”
A category two murder attempt accusation in the state of Florida bears a highest 15-year prison penalty and up to a $10,000 fine in the case of a guilty verdict.
Brown has faced numerous judicial issues over the period. He earlier had been accused of assault of a truck employee, various family violence allegations, inability to pay family payments and other occurrences.
During a recent match with his team against the New York Jets, Brown stripped off his shirt, equipment and gloves and ran off the arena, leading to his dismissal by the team and practically halting his professional career.
Brown, who had twelve years in the NFL, was an top-tier receiver who devoted the bulk of his career with Pittsburgh. During his career, Brown had over 900 grabs for above 12,291 yards, the twenty-eighth highest of record. He was a multiple-time prestigious pick.
