Super Mario Galaxy Film Trailer Is Here, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. This occurred during a dedicated Nintendo presentation that highlighted the soon-to-release cartoon movie.

The follow-up to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the far corners of the universe. In his journey, he meets a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.

A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Beloved Titles

Similar to the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a breakout star from the original cinematic release.

However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Star-Studded Voice Cast Come Back and Grow

The movie will welcome back of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

Mario's Major Moment

The new Mario movie is planned to debut near the 40-year celebration of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo has a trio of new releases already confirmed for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Launch Date Set

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
